Why should I clean my carpets? |
You probably know that carpet cleaning is necessary to maintain the life of your carpet and to have a healthy home. Why should you have your carpet cleaned?
The first reason is because of the appearance. Clean floors make everything look better. When you have company over you want them to see a clean house, including floors and carpets. A clean floor shows people that you care about your home and take pride in its appearance.
The next reason is that a clean carpet just lasts longer. Dirt is abrasive and will ruin your carpet. Every step you take grinds the soil into your carpets fibers. This permanently damages the carpet causing it to wear out much quicker. The last reason is for your health. Clean carpets are healthier. You do not want your kids crawling around on dirty carpets. Carpets are like a giant air filters for your home. How often should I clean my carpets? |
The longest anyone wants to go between carpet cleanings is one year. Even if a carpet gets no traffic it is subject to dust and other environmental contaminants. You should clean your homes carpet every year if you have only one or two people in your home with no pets and no smokers. If you meet these conditions, clean your carpet once a year.
The next interval is once every nine months. Clean your carpet every nine months if you have children or pets or if you have a household of one or two whom are smokers.
Clean your carpet every six months if you have kids, pets and\or smokers in the family. The combinations of these factors makes twice yearly carpet cleaning necessary.
Finally there is the three month interval. This is for homes that have pets, kids and smokers. If this is the case three months is the maximum you should go between cleanings as these factors are rough on a carpet and your home.
Use the previous internals as guidelines only. Every home is different. You might be able to go longer between cleanings if you have a lot of hard surfaces in the home. You also might have to clean the carpet more often if you live in a very humid or dusty environment. This should give you enough information to make a general decision about when to clean your carpets.
